Cool! Now Bernhard and I have proof for Mr. Fuhrmann in the rec.sport.skating.inline newsgroup that ramp skating was NOT invented by inliners ( since Scott Olsen and Rollerblade didn't start marketing them till the mid 80's ).

My first skatepark experience. 2 hours by public transportation.
All fiberglass on metal frames, no platforms. His name is JP and he's wearing Molly shorts. The bowl in the background had a channel and staircase. The halfpipe had roll-in's about halfway up the ramp on one side. It was cool to be able to see a skater carving around the bowl from the outside.

This is an old thread, but I'll put this up just for the hell of it in case anyone is interested. I grew up in NYC and went to Skateboard City 2-3 times. Here is one shot of 4 that I still have. This is from a 13th birthday party of a friend.

Hey Hicks, thanks for pulling this up. But your pic didn't make it into the posting. Maybe it was bigger than 100 KB. Then you should make it smaller and try again.

Thanks for alerting me to that Bernard. Here is a shot of me in 1979 (12 or 13 at the time) on the plexi half pipe. You can sort of see that I am riding a Pine Design deck. (With Sims blue snakes & tracker full tracks - sadly it got stolen a year later.) I also posted a pic in reply to my original failed post.
