My previous comments (down below) were based on definitions I found on the internet. That being said, my son Raven is a walking 'skate dictionary'. So, I asked him about whether wheel grabbing determines "stale". He told me that grabbing any under part of the frame (plate) or wheels makes it stale. So the trick is a "Stale Japan Air".

He also said that grabbing the leg, or top of your skate boot, makes it a regular grab or a regular "Japan Air"'. I stand corrected, and humbled, by my sons' insane skate knowledge.

: It isn't a stale air because you are not grabbing the wheels. You are grabbing your foot.

: Stale
: Used to describe any grab where you grab the wheels of the skate.
