This is just a thought. Has anyone considered using a pair of goalie skates with the blades removed? They have a leather boot which would give one a good snug fit, as well as a plastic outer shell which would provide excellent protection from bangs and bruises. I don't know about the States, but here in Canada there are lots of used sporting goods stores where one could pick up a pair at a decent price. (New ones would be a small fortune)
