Area51 Skatepark moves on
Eindhoven

Area 51 skatepark prepares to leave its current location - an old army hangar in the suburb of Meerhoven. After serving almost three and a half years as a skatepark the city of Eindhoven decided to give the hangar a new function.

When Area51 skatepark first opened its doors, it was already clear the hangar could only provide temporary accommodation for the skatepark. At the end of 2003 it became clear that a new location for the skatepark was found by the city on the industrial estate of Strijp S near the city center of Eindhoven. This is a nice alternative for the skatepark, because of the good accessibility. Strijp S will be transformed from an industrial complex into a new quarter where you can live, work, be entertained and first and foremost skate!

Unfortunately Area 51 is not able to move immediately. The new location is not available until March 2006, at the soonest. The skatepark will have to move from the hangar after the weekend of January 7 and 8, anyway. Rolf Dankers of Area 51 is hardly desperate: We will be welcome on Strijp S. In case we can't be set. Visitors will be kept up-to-date on the latest development through the Area 51's internet site. The funding for the re-location and the running of the skatepark until 2010 has been granted by the city of Eindhoven.

The skatepark's employees organise a farewell party on January 7 and 8, the last weekend on the current location. During this weekend the skatepark will be opened for 32 hours straight and there will be acts and contests.
