New quad skate design
They absolutely ROCK! I decided the slide plates needed to be wider, to keep the wheels from catching, and lower for the same reason. I've been at the skatepark this last Monday, and then again today, and all of the skateboarders are freaking out about how cool they are!! Even the inline skaters were checking them out!

I could put the plans somewhere here for others to build their own. I've had at least 5 different people tell me that I should get a patent on them. Crazy!! I'm thinking that I could make these plates for a decent price, with the built on sliders, but I'm not sure their would be enough of a demand to do any serious production of them. I also do not know how quick I could crank them out, as it took a long time drilling all the freaking holes through the stock materials. (I'd definitely streamline that process)

Already, I'm doing tricks that I could never do before. Frontside Tabernacles as well as switch backside Tabernacles, Fakie X-grinds, Switch side Sweat Stance, etc..... I am so stoked!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing I want to change is to fan out the lock-in H-block near the outer edges so it won't bind on curved coping or rails.

The weight, I am not so sure of. I'll get back to you on that. But, it doesn't seem to feel any different than my previous skates. I am in skater heaven right now.

How are things in France, Zorg?? I have not heard much from you lately. Are you getting much skating in, or is the weather interfering??

I finally finished building my new quad skates. There are only a few minor modifications that I'd still like to do to them. But, for now, I'll regale you w/ how they are now.....including glorious pictures.

I started with the current ski plates, skateboard trucks, & wheels that were on my existing skates :

I bought cross country ski boots which are soft, flexible, & yet give ankle support while not interfering with side stance skating :

I got my different plastic pieces in order to make 3 layers for the slide plate. One piece is simply a riser pad. The second piece is a middle riser pad that is a wider support system. The third piece is the wide riser pad.

I cut the first layer to go between the trucks as the main riser pad; & I drilled holes through it to lighten the weight :

The second layer was cut so that it spread out to support the slider plate. I also then drilled holes through it to lighten the weight.

For the slider, I had to cut out parts of the plastic to fit between the wheels & over the trucks.

Then, I drilled holes to lighten it, as well as shaping grooves & angles for grinding & sliding :

Here are the finished skates :

If yopu want more details, go to my photobucket account which has more pics HERE.

Biff, tries to make the slide into 4 pieces.
I have it done in 4 pieces and you take away weight and also get into the right lateral inclination for the copy.
I think I put some photos here from my side, or if I can post some for you after you see them.
I on the side from within, I have put a different measure to outsiders.
With interiors 1 centimeter shorter than those outside, get a very good stability for ufo ufo frontside and backside and exteriors with 1 centimeter longer, do better what frontside and backside unity.
To be made into 4 pieces and have nothing in the middle, lets a little flexivilidad the slides and are not as rigid.
I've been this week in France bordeaux sk8park skating on, proving my new slides.
I like to skate with Zorg, but he had a lot of work.
Just record a few videos for you to see, so I'll post the video editing to upload it soon

Last night, I was practicing front and backside Tabernacles. I'm always trying new tricks, as much as I can think of them, but I almost never know the name of them. I usually have to ask Raven, my son, who aggressive inline skates.

I have realized that there are two more modifications I want to perform to the sliders to get them really working well:

1) I need to widen the h-block lock-in groove near the edges so that my feet will have a little more 'wiggle' room. Right now, it locks in a little too tight on ledges and coping, and they perform a little poorly on curved obstacles. I'll keep it narrow only in the middle of the h-block (about a 1/2" wide or 1.27 cm).

2) I also need a shallow groove (1" or 2.54 cm) going from the front of the skate to the back of the skate. Right now, any kind of 'soul' trick on a rail shifts around too much.

Once I do these touch ups, I think I'll be as happy as a clam!!!

Rubio, I look forward to detailed pics of your 4 piece sliders. And I look forward to your new video.

Thank you for the pics. I love seeing the different perspective in designs. It is food for thought!!

Do your trucks still sit lower than the sliders? Judging from your pictures, it is hard to tell. In another words, do the trucks still grind when they are on the coping from toe to heel, or does it slide on the slider?

Also, it looks like the slide plate is wider on one side than it is on the other; Is it just me, or is that the case?

What kind of trucks are you using? I see that you are using low profile hex head kingpins.

And finally, why are the wheel areas of the trucks covered in paper and tape? Was this before painting them??

Wow, this is extreme! So low and so wide, I think it would be at least too low for me. I need to be able to lock my skates on the copying.

my slides are left up to the kinping, trucks below. So the truck slides

In the plates are longer on one side than the other, it is true. the explanation I have is that to the outside, I need less bandwidth, that the figures need that distance. And the inside, the longer that is what to do so, simply ne UFO UFO and backhand and more.
I think that distance is great for the tricks I'm taking of inlines

Trucks model DARR TRUCKER 106mm

LOL my wheels for trucks are taped for my trip back to Spain from France, so everything into the suitcase and wheels inside the boots.LOL

I believe you are right, but I couldn't get used to it and therefore I adjusted my sliders to bring them closer to the boot. Luckily my desgin allows for variable slider height quite easily:

I agree with Rubio. Over the years, I've made several major alterations to my skates. Each time, it seems that it has been for the best to have done so.

The first change was to use skateboard trucks. So much better than roller skate trucks!! More stable and less repairs needed. It also allowed me to lengthen the wheel base.

My second major change was to go to skateboard wheels. They do not catch on the coping nearly as much. Then, I went to harder skateboard wheels which go faster and slide better; which is much better for ledges, coping, and rails.

The third change was adding Able frames for doing slides. I quickly realized that they needed modifying to work better for quad skates. Each modification has been wider and lower to the ground. The lower I go, the better; As it prevents my trucks from hanging up on the coping, ledges, or rails.

Years ago, I would NEVER have thought that I would have such a set up, but I am so very glad that I do. Btw, Rubio, thanks for the pictures! It looks like your sliders are more like a xsjado frame.
