Good Old Dayzzzz
: I remember many old time roller skaters. Paul Votava was a good buddy (i've lost contact though). Roll-out-twist-flip was my favorite trick to do, also the front-side in-pool flip. Ah, with age comes the sense of self-preservation. My mind says I could do it again but my body won't let me. The photo of me was in 1978 at Oasis in San Diego.

Just surfing the net and ran across your article AFTER reading about a friend I met in Panama, Paul Votava, who just opened a restaurant in Volcan.

 Hey John,

that's a very nice shot!

Cool to see you here. So you still ride your skates?

That's a pity! Though much better than not be riding at all. Nothing can beat the feeling of having roller skates under your feet! But a bit of transition every now and then would be even better ...

Nice photo...I hate to say vintage, but like a good wine...

Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum! Got anymore pics?

: I can thank my orthopedic surgeon that I can even still skate … 6 knee surgeries and 2 shoulder surgeries … heck I’m the Bionic skater!
:
: Ya, the skate contests took a toll on my body, but I would sure do it again! More photos, I don’t have that many, and I don’t have any video (wish I did). I used to do some fun tricks that would scare the “you know what” out of spectators at the contests. My favorite was to skate around the rim of a pool and at the last second, spin around then drop in backwards. It was fun to watch the people turn their heads away expecting a total splat.
:
: I sure miss those days, but I still have my Tracker skates.

 Hi John,

I don't know if you remember me, but I skated with you in ASPO. I was on the Skatercross team with Paul. I was pretty young back then. After 14 years off of the rollerskates, I got back into it about 8 months ago. I was doing pretty well until I broke my elbow really badly. Anyway, after four months of healing, I started again. I have hit the park everyday this week.

That is definitely not Paul. I ran into him back in 1992. Unless, time changed his looks that much. lol

Good to hear from another old-timer. I can't place the face with the name ... where are you skating now?

The best way you would remember me was that I was the youngest rollerskater in ASPO. I was much younger than you and Paul. I was like 12 years old. I just got back into skating this week and skate a park in Costa Mesa. I actually remember your skating. I remember seeing you in the pipe pasting contest and you would use your toe stops to climb up as far as possible. I also remember your rolling in backwards.

 Hey Bobby!

Do you remember me? We use to skate together at Reseda. I have been wondering what happened to Paul Votava myself. I live in San Diego now and don't skate just snowboard every chance I get.

Hi Jodi, I do remember you. Nice to hear from you! I remember my parents driving us to Marina Del Rey to skate at a contest. I ran into Paul Votava around 1992. He was skating at Mike McGill's skate park and I ended up giving him a ride to a friend's house. At the time he was a Bouncer/roadie for bands. Dude, you need to get back on your skates! Do you have any good pictures from the Skatercross days? I have no good pics from that era.

Yes,you are absolutely right. I read an article on his restaurant and sent him an e-mail several months ago. Originally I did not recognize him, but was very stoked to corespond with him. He was my biggest influence in skating. I was so good.
