: Sorry, I was dreaming. I mean Dr. Martens. Just an example of ordinary boots. It looks like it's not so easy to find seperate skate boots in Amsterdam, Holland.

This choice of boot seems a bit strange to me. Why not try and get some use ice hockey skates and rip the boots off?

 Hi
I would like to pick up vertical rollerskating and I'm trying to put together some good skates.

I came across the site of R.S.I , (a Rotterdam,The Netherlands, Europe based skate store since 1978). They sell radical skates intended for vert skating.
Do you guys think this could be a good baseplate + trucks?

take a look at www.rsi.nl

If I'm not mistaken RSI plates and trucks are made by Sure-Grip, who are a reputable company. I use Sure-Grip myself for my street skates (Invaders) and they work well.

Hi, welcome to the forum, it is always cool to see a new visitor. I checked out the site and looked at the picture. It is hard to tell really, how wide the trucks are. If Dave is right and they are manufactured by Sure Grip you can check out a picture of the wide hangers on the Skates on Haight site found on the resources page. It does look like to me though that the boots have extreamly high heels, which could be a bit wierd on transition, causing you to lean forward to much. Lee Cole at Skates on Haight would build up some skates for you with the same plates and the wide trucks and he could set them up with a lower boot like the Riedell Carrera Sport. I ride this boot and love it. Thanks for bringing this source to our attention, I am sure everyone is pleased to hear about another place to get "radical" rollerskates. I hope your search is succesful, happy rolling. Brian

 Thanx for the tips!

I've talked to the local shops today and they recommended a rollerblade style boot to put on top of the plates.
It didn't really looked like they knew something about it. Is there anything sensible to say about what a boot must have to be a "good" vertical quad skate boot. Can I use a Dr. Adams for example?

Any tip for wheels? size and hardness?
I would love to ride powell skateboard wheels for sentimental reasons. Not good idea?

Thanx in advance

That's perfectly OK. You can ride big and hard wheels on your ramp roller skates. You're not as limited in hardness and size as with inlines. Have a look at my "How to build a vertical rollerskate" for some tips.

You can try http://hawaiisurf.com/asp/home.asp
They sell quad ramp skates.

You could also try http://www.zandstrasport.nl/indexe.htm

They sell ice speed skate and Skeeler(inline) speed boots that would work with the addition of a heel.
