awkward beginnings lol?
lol, oh pleaz, spare me the humility! Let me let my knee heal (STILL hurts!) first so I at least bend my knees when I pump and not just my upper body lol. Try skating where you cant move your knee much and yeah, I look a little goofy lol. But its nice to see why my pumping sucks, its not just the knee bend but I was moving my arms weird but I was dying to see myself skate no matter what. I just dont want to not skate even if injured. I guess this is why most people quit cause I think at first we all look goofy? Skating injured is even more funny lol.

: So you have some video?????? Where is it????
:
: : Well, I finally saw myself skate. I have airplane arms lol! Did others have flailing arms and such when they first started? Does body control come in time? Seems like most people here have been skating since they were wee ones. But if you started later, did you go through an awkward stage? I see why now I am not pumping higher on the ramps cause my form isnt good yet. I never really roller skated til a year ago and just started this summer so I guess I shouldnt expect gracee, but geez, its more like a roller spaz hahaha! Now I understand why I get so hungry after I skate. I'm really good at expending more energy then necessary. :-P

Claudine, it will come in time. You are doing awesome for a beginner. It is a lot easier when you are 14 years old. I am guessing that because you can't bend you are standing straight up and that will cause you to lose balance. Don't worry, you will kick ass. Also, for some reason I have never been able to do high airs. I could flip front and back and do a McTwist, but once I got in the air the arms would flap.

Hahahaha, yeah, I'm a spaz! Even when I talk my hands are all over the place lol. Well if anyone skates behind me on the ramps, I will certainly wack them to no end with my left arm lol. Wack, splat lol. I need my own video camera. I'm really good at self entertainment. :-P

But yeah, this knee thing is really annoying. I could pump almost twice as high beforehand. Now I'm bent over at the waist all the time to compensate for my inability to squat down. Least I can still drop in and will try stalls tomorrow!

But I was impatient this week and tried to do just a couple jumps on Wed. My knees been bothering me since. I know for certain I hurt it not from falling but pulling it. Gosh, wish I could get it healed! But least I am still skatin. I'm doing it for fun tho and fun I am having!!

Claudine, I would hold off doing stahls until you feel better. If you can't bend your knees, you stand a good chance of straightening out on the flat bottom, which is how I broke my elbow. My new chiropractor is a really cool dude. He told me that at our age we need to tone things down, but he also was cool with me skating. His point was to do what you are capable of and not what you would have done ten years ago. He actually wants to buy some skates and asked my advice. I know my boots, but that is about it. I would recommend to him Reidel 125's, 265's, or Carerras. (sp?) Wheels are easy for any path skater, but I don't know what type of plate? I am guessing he could get a descent set up for $175. Any suggestions to pass on to my new doctor?

Well, HELL NO I AIN'T STOPPING! I just started. Check out Irene, shes my hero! :-D I donno, looks like shse is still cranking it up and doing awesome!! OK, seems like I might need more rest days now, longer healing time, but I will still play as hard as long as I can.

My problem is that I'm out of shape. Then I went back too fast into it. I skated til I hurt, then skated the next day til I hurt, and again and again lol. My body wasnt ready for explosive movements. So I pulled a muscle. Now I have a major jumpin craving, ok, I think I have to chill on that til this is healed. Maybe til spring unfortunately...... But stop, NO WAY!

Knees dont have a blood supply so they take long and I dont seem to have the patience. I have to take caution. When I have the knee braces on, takes most the pressure off it. If it tells me no, I am trying to listen. But stalls dont take extreme knee bend. Not more then transitions. I wont try them if its bothering me though, promise. This isnt age, its just not healed. I will see how it goes. The park is only open 3 more weeks. Then if I must, I will take another lay off. I dont know how to get into shape though with rest very well. Gosh, I really love skating!!

Hey, get him some skates!!

Oooohh, Claudine take it easy! Your knee has to heel before you push it to much, I know itīs hard but itīs nessesary. I have a skiing knee so I know what Iīm talking about. My last "crash" was for 3 years ago but I can still feel it in my knee!! My meniscus is hurt and if you once hurt the meniscus it will never heal properbly. The knee is a complicated thing on the body....So you need to take care of your self so you can skate many years from know :-D
Big get well hug from Majja!!!

Oh no, thats a bad injury! Mine is the LCL (ligament) or maybe a tendon sprain. It wasnt serious but I was limping for awhile and it still aches me now, 5 weeks later. I have to not do jumpin where I lift my knees to chest cause that makes it hurt. It feels better today! I think I will just skate 2 days a week again so it has more rest days. :-(

I don't know Claudine, I think you are doing pretty good for just starting this summer! I've coached and trained new skaters for the last couple years with roller derby and months after they started they could barely keep their balance on a flat track, nevermind a skate ramp or park. And then there are the veteran skaters who wouldn't go near a ramp!

and i'm no pro or anything but what I've learned from watching and doing, is bending at the knees!!

wish me luck in Minnesota this weekend!!

I think you will do AWESOME in Minnesota! I'll be thinking bout you. Have fun! Take pics, I wanna see you roll and smash all the girls lol. :-D

Yeah, I think if I ever think I'm sucky, I need to go to the rink again. Its weird. I think roller skating is much harder to pick up cause after just a few months of skating, I was skating with people who have been skating 3-5 years. And in the DC league, none of those girls would even budge to go on the streets. You have no idea how great it is to skate with you! I have such a blast when you're around. I'm gonna put on my toe stops and you'll have to teach me how to run on them like you do. You're awesome! ;-D

I'm taking the week off from skating and lifting so my knee will be healed when you get back. Then I can take that brace off and get my knees bending. I'll just do some light exercises to get things going. After watching some videos, yeah, see I need to work on squatting with my hips/knees more when I pump. Its easy to improve when you know what you're doing wrong. So when you come back, I'm jumpin that spine! In my head I'm ready now. Then you can watch me SPLAT hahahaha!
